Empty Trash – Prelude Pictures

How to use the trash and what it means

Prelude Pictures is directly connected to the picture files in S3 storage. In this tutorial we demonstrate how to use the trash and the implications of emptying the trash.

Putting items into the trash folio

We can drag and drop line items from folio to folio in Prelude Pictures. One of the folios is the trash. The idea is to remove items no longer needed for the property or location. Simply drag the item to the trash folio and drop it there. To make sure it stays in the trash just click the Save button. The items remain in the trash and are shown there each time the page is loaded. They can remain here forever, or you can empty the trash by clicking the Empty Trash button.

Empty Trash

When the Empty Trash button is clicked a warning is given and you are asked if you want to go ahead and empty the trash.

The warning says, “NOTICE: This may mean that some or all of these pictures will not be available to the various websites that display them. See the Tip on this screen for more details.” If you click OK the trash will be emptied. If you click Cancel the trash will not be emptied.

The issue here is that when the trash is actually emptied the files are removed from their location in S3. If a file is needed or requested by a website or app, the file will not be found. The files that websites and apps look for and request are determined by the data that is established in Prelude Pictures. Be sure to use Save & Publish to update the data on the various sites so they know not to look for the files you have just deleted.
